Angelic Layer is a Japanese manga series created by Clamp. It is a story set in the same universe as the manga Chobits and explores the relationship between humans, human-created devices, toys, and godlike power. The protagonist, Misaki Suzuhara, moves to Tokyo and becomes interested in Angelic Layer, a popular game where players control dolls known as Angels. With the help of an eccentric man named Icchan, Misaki creates her own angel named Hikaru and competes in tournaments. Along the way, she learns about her mother's involvement in the development of Angelic Layer and the secrets surrounding the game. The series was adapted into a 26-episode anime and has received positive reviews for its character designs and portrayal of friendship. Angelic Layer won the Animation Kobe Award for TV Feature in 2001.
